Trained at the Hautes Ecoles de Musique in Lausanne and Geneva, and at the Zurich University of the Arts, Guillaume Berney is currently artistic and musical director of the Orchestre Nexus. Previously, he held similar positions with Ensemble Proteus.
He has conducted ensembles such as Teatro Regio Torino, Festival Strings Lucerne, Argovia Philharmonic, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Budapest MVA Symphony Orchesta, Karlsbad Symphony Orchestra, Philips Symphony Orchestra, Kralove Philharmonic, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra and Estonian Youth Orchestra.
He was in turn assistant to Bertrand de Billy, John Nelson, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Michel Corboz and Gabor Takacs-Nagy. He has studied with many conductors, including Bernard Haitink, Daniele Gatti, David Zinmann, Neeme and Paavo Jarvi and Douglas Bostock. He took part in the final stages of the Cadaques, Cantelli, Jeunesses Musicales and Antal Dorati competitions.
He has collaborated with Bryn Terfel, Marina Viotti, Camille Thomas, Sergey Ostrovksy, Barbara Hendricks, Andrey Baranov, Marie-Claude Chappuis, Christian Chamorel, Eva Zaicik, Daniel Behle, Lionel Cottet, Mélodie Zhao, and many others.
In addition to his activities as a musician, Guillaume Berney is also General Secretary of the Fondation Culturelle HEMU-CL, co-director of the Lucens Classique festival, President of the Ecole de Musique de Pully, teacher and head of classical music programming for the Fête de la Musique de Lausanne.
